What is a Trackback?

Trackbacks offer bloggers the ability to communicate between their websites.
For example:

We write a post on our blog.
I’ll make a comment on my own input, but want your own readers to see what I’ll be able to write and comment on it.
Then I write a post on my blog and I send a trackback to your blog.

What is a Pingback?

Pingbacks give the software the ability to communicate between sites. It is almost as remote comments.

I write a post on my blog.
My blogging software receive pingback. Then it will automatically go to your blog to confirm that the pingback is here (the link is present).
Then I have the possibility to show your pingback and comment on my blog. This is only a link to your site.
Pingbacks also work within our site. So if one of our entries link to another entry, then your WordPress send a self-ping. This can be really annoying.

Trackbacks and Pingbacks Difference?

Trackbacks are made with manual actions while Pingbacks are (different communication technologies) automatic. LosPingbacks they not send any content. Trackbacks sent an extract of our content.

How to disable Trackbacks, Pingbacks and Pings Auto?

If we are tired of receiving trackbacks and pingbacks from spammers, then there is an option to disable them. First we go to comments in settings and uncheck where it says “Allow link notifications from other sites (pingbacks and trackbacks)”.
Unchecking this option only trackbacks and pingbacks for future messages (not existing) are disabled. So to do this, you can remove existing with a plugin like WP Optimize which includes among its optimization features to eliminate all previous messages and optimize the database.
