In this blog post, I put Google’s AI Studio to the test by attempting to customize a Shopify theme and a WordPress theme using AI guidance. Let’s see how well it performs!
📌 What is Google AI Studio?
Google AI Studio, available at ai.studio.google.com, allows users to stream their screen and receive AI-powered guidance for performing various tasks. The AI will analyze what’s on the screen and instruct users on where to click and what steps to follow.
It sounds promising, but can it really replace detailed video tutorials? Let’s find out.
🔥 Test #1: Changing the Shopify Header Background Color with AI Studio
I started by asking AI Studio to help me change the header background color of my Shopify store. Here’s how it went:
Step 1: Setting Up AI Studio
- Visit ai.studio.google.com.
- Click on “Stream Real-Time”.
- Select Screen Share as the video source.
- Begin interacting with the AI.
Step 2: Asking AI to Change the Shopify Header Color
I asked: “Can you help me change the header background color in my Shopify store?”
The AI responded with a general guide:
- Go to Shopify Admin → Click on Online Store.
- Select Themes → Click Customize on the active theme.
- Locate the Header Settings → Look for background color options.
Step 3: AI’s Struggle with Theme Customization
Although the AI guided me to the theme settings, it failed to pinpoint the exact way to change only the header background color. Instead, it suggested changing the overall theme color scheme, which also modified other elements unintentionally.
In reality, the best way to change only the header background in Shopify is by using custom CSS or modifying theme settings directly, something AI Studio failed to recognize.
Result: ❌ AI Studio struggled with Shopify customization.
🔥 Test #2: Changing the WordPress Header Background Color with AI Studio
Next, I tried using AI Studio to change the header background color of a WordPress site. Since WordPress has different themes and customization options, I wanted to see if AI could navigate the differences.
Step 1: Accessing WordPress Customizer
- Log in to WordPress Admin.
- Go to Appearance → Click Customize.
- Look for Header or Color Settings.
Step 2: AI’s Instructions for WordPress Header Customization
The AI told me to:
- Click on Header & Footer inside the WordPress customizer.
- Find the Background Color Settings.
However, I could not find any direct header background color setting in the theme I was using.
Step 3: Using Elementor for Customization
Since my WordPress website used Elementor, AI suggested the following:
- Click on ‘Edit with Elementor’ for the homepage.
- Select the Header Section (a blue border appears around it).
- Click on the ‘Style’ Tab in the Elementor sidebar.
- Change the Background Color and save the changes.
Result: ✅ AI Studio successfully guided me through Elementor customization!
🧐 Final Verdict: Can AI Replace Video Tutorials?
While AI Studio showed potential, it failed to handle Shopify’s theme settings properly. However, it performed better in WordPress Elementor customization.
Pros of AI Studio:
✔️ Quick step-by-step guidance. ✔️ Works well with Google tools and Elementor. ✔️ Saves time for basic tasks.
Cons of AI Studio:
❌ Not accurate for all platforms (struggled with Shopify customization). ❌ Limited session duration (only 10 minutes per session). ❌ Lacks in-depth explanation (it provides steps but not insights).
🎬 Conclusion: AI is NOT the Death of Video Tutorials!
While AI Studio is an exciting tool, it cannot fully replace detailed video tutorials. Why? Because:
- AI guidance is not always accurate for every platform.
- AI lacks the ability to explain concepts deeply like a human tutor.
- AI is limited to real-time screen instructions, whereas video tutorials provide structured, in-depth lessons.
If you’re a Shopify developer, WordPress user, or web designer, AI Studio may be helpful for basic tasks, but for advanced customization, traditional tutorials are still necessary.
