If you’ve ever tried to transfer a Facebook page from one Business Manager to another, you know it feels like navigating a maze blindfolded. And just when you think you’ve got it? Boom. Instagram gets in the way.
So here’s the deal. I’m going to walk you through exactly how to transfer Facebook page ownership—smoothly, step by step, so you can hand over the keys and move on with your life.
Step 1: Grab That Business ID
First, you need the Business ID of the account receiving the page.
- Open the destination Business Manager (the one getting the page).
- Click the Settings icon (gear icon) in the bottom left.
- Look at your browser’s URL bar. See that long string of numbers? That’s your Business ID. Copy it.
Keep this tab open. You’ll need it.
Step 2: Assign the Partner
Now head over to the Business Manager that currently owns the page.
- Go to Business Settings > Pages.
- Find the page you want to transfer and click on it.
- Click Assign Partner.
- Choose Business ID and paste that number you copied earlier.
- Scroll down. Toggle on all permissions except “Manage Advanced Settings” or sensitive access.
- Click Assign.
Facebook will probably ask for verification. For me, it was a code sent to email. Enter it, and you’re good to go.
The page is now shared with the new business. But we’re not done yet.
Step 3: Accept the Page on the New Account
Hop over to the destination Business Manager.
- Go to Business Settings > Pages.
- You should see the pending page there.
- Click Accept or Assign Asset (depending on what Facebook shows you).
The page now lives in both places. But if you want full ownership transferred, you need to remove it from the original account.
Step 4: The Instagram Plot Twist
Here’s where most people get stuck.
When you go back to the original Business Manager and try to Remove the page, Facebook might stop you cold. Why? Because that page is linked to an Instagram account.
The error message will say something like: “Disconnect Instagram and try again.”
So let’s fix that.
- In the original Business Manager, go to Instagram Accounts.
- Find the connected Instagram.
- Click Assign Partner and paste the same Business ID again.
- Toggle permissions on and assign.
Now go back to the page settings:
- Navigate to your Facebook Page.
- Go to Settings > Linked Accounts.
- Find Instagram and click Disconnect. Confirm it.
Boom. Instagram is now free.
Step 5: Remove and Complete
Now try removing the page from the original Business Manager again.
- Go back to Business Settings > Pages.
- Click your page, then Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
Refresh the destination Business Manager. The page should now appear under Pages with full ownership transferred.
Done. Finished. You’re a hero.
A Few Friendly Tips
- Double-check everything. Make sure all ads, catalogs, or Instagram content are accounted for before transferring.
- Communicate with the new owner. Let them know the transfer is coming so they can accept it quickly.
- Be patient. Facebook’s systems don’t always update instantly. Give it a few minutes if something looks off.
Why This Matters
Transferring a Facebook page isn’t just about moving pixels around the internet. It’s about trust. It’s about handing a client the keys to their own digital presence and saying, “Here. This is yours now.”
And when you do it smoothly? You look like a pro.
